case details:

Harmon was last seen in Monroe County, Mississippi on June 29, 1985. The day prior to his disappearance, he told his father that he was thinking about purchasing a used car. Before his disappearance, Harmon had been awarded a settlement from a lawsuit against a previous employer. Harmon had been assaulted and hazed during his employment for the company and had sued the company for $50,000. Family states that he was being threatened due to the lawsuit and decided to settle for $3,000 because he had been afraid to go out in public and just wanted it to end. Through their investigation, authorities state that the last known person to see Harmon says that he dropped him off in Becker, Mississippi. He said that a man in a blue pickup truck pulled up beside them and told Harmon to get in and ride with him. He says that Harmon then got into the pickup truck with the man and they drove away. It is unclear if Harmon was possibly meeting the man to purchase a vehicle or if the two knew one another; however, the man in the truck has never been identified. Harmon has not been seen or heard from since.

James “Rodney” Mills confessed to helping dispose of Harmon’s body but stated he is not responsible for his murder. He is currently incarcerated in Tennessee after pleading guilty to the 1994 murder of his cousin’s husband. He stated that he and a friend had been hired by the cousin to carry out the murder. All three are currently incarcerated for their parts in the murder. Mills was sentenced to life in prison.

Mills stated that he buried Harmon’s body in someone else’s freshly dug grave at Willis Cemetery, which was only 300 yards from his residence. Police provided Mills with a photo of the cemetery and he pointed out which grave he had buried Harmon’s remains in. When the grave was dug up, Harmon’s remains were not located.

Mills has not been charged in his participation in Harmon’s murder but maintains that his statements are true. Harmon’s case is presumed a homicide but his body has never been located. His case remains unsolved at this time.
